Galle
Galle
This historic city has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a delight to explore on foot. It is blessed with an infinitely exotic and ancient trading port, with imposing Dutch colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions, and museums. The fort is a walled enclave surrounded by the sea and was built by the Dutch in 1663. Galle and this fort are not only beautiful sights, but there is also a unique working community here with many administrative offices, courts, export companies, schools, and colleges. Most travelers are completely seduced by Galle’s ambiance.
